Mindful Play Facilitator | Narrative Designer | Cultural Consultant
๐๐ค Currently facilitating mindful play sessions and consulting on narrative design and sensitivity/cultural representation. ๐ค๐
I use role-playing and story games as tools for identity exploration, emotional processing, and community building. My masters and doctoral research centered on interactive identification--after which I supplemented with non-profit research on representation in international tv, commercials, movies, and games.
Now, in addition to being a full-time educator teaching classes like Game Writing at UCLA, I use my powers for good: I create brave spaces and inclusive, empowering experiences to help deep thinkers play, playful folks get mindful, and everyone practice mutual care.
I see play as an ideal means to practice being in the moment. What do you say, do, feel, when experiencing a crit fail? How do you get yourself to play in the first place?
This may be blasphemy on Itch.io, but I believe the game is the gathering device. The practice of engaged mindfulness is the point. How do we create together?
I've written about this in academic contexts, like my thesis on World of Warcraft or my dissertation that included analyses of nordic LARP structures, but my Substack is a more accessible starting place:
